Flamingo birds in kutch

Have you ever been to the famous Flamingo city ? It is the place fully surrounded by beautiful flamingos. Hence afterwards name as flamingo city. It is located at Rann of kutch, at Gujarat.

The rann of kutch is the largest wetland and saline dessert. This place provides a home to numerous numbers of flamingo birds, i.e greater flamingo and is situated in the mud area of the rann.

It is near around 10 Km of distance from Kala Dungar hills and the only area available for the birds to maintain their breed regularly.

The birds are landed like a huge group and are of a special breed called greater flamingo or Phoenicopterus roseus.

This is specie which is the most widely available of its kind. These are of light pink color with a black beak at lower end.   

People are so fond of these beautiful creature that they travel miles to capture the view created when these are spread like beans on the great white rann dessert.
Today, Flamingo City, an island in the middle of the Rann of Kutch, known the world over as one of the biggest breeding grounds of the Greater Flamingo, where some of the flamingo chicks are frozen sitting upright, others half buried in the sand.   

Once the monsoon turns the baked environs of Kutch into a marshy land, flamingos start coming at the white rann in around the months of August to October. Then starts their breeding cycle, making mud nests.
